WHAT IS BOTOX?
Botox treatments may sound like scientific wizardry, but they are a natural solution. The name comes from an entirely safe natural protein called Botulinum Toxin. Unlike some treatments that aim to pump up the skin or fill in the lines, Botox injection treatments work by relaxing tight facial muscles, effectively helping the face stop frowning! This reduces wrinkles and fine lines. Botulinum Toxin is usually used on the forehead, crows feet, smokers lines around the lips, for underarm sweating, and to relax jaw muscles.
The procedure requires no anesthetic as it is effectively painless, but we apply a topical anesthetic to make you comfortable. It should take no more than a couple of weeks before the full effects take force, and once this is complete they will last for several months.
Generally there aren’t any side effects bar occasional mild bruising, and other than avoiding strenuous exercise for a day or so, there isn’t any need for a recovery period, so you can carry on your work and life uninterrupted. Injectables allow you to get fast results with no down time!
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER?
When it comes to Botox injection treatments, before and after photos tell an interesting story. The difference is clear: frown lines and crow’s feet will be heavily reduced if not completely eliminated. However, the Botox treatment offered at SKYN Clinic & Apothecary will leave a natural (if younger) look rather than a plastic effect.
Contrary to some horror stories, Botox treatments won’t leave you unable to show expression such as surprise or to frown when administered correctly by an Aesthetic Nurse Practioner! The only difference is that the frown lines won’t be there when you don’t want them.
You can carry on with your day as normal immediately after leaving the clinic, although it’s important to avoid anything strenuous for 24 hours such as going to the gym. Side effects are rare, but occasionally some clients experience bruising, but this usually fades quickly.
Before you leave the clinic at the end of your treatment, we will schedule you for a free check-up 2 weeks later, so that we can review the results of your treatment once it has taken full effect. We can also book your next appointment in 3-4 months time to ensure you maintain your new look!
WHAT IS DYSPORT?
This injectable treatment for wrinkles is made from the same neurotoxin (botulinum toxin type A) as Botox. Dysport (formally Reloxin) received the approval of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use as a wrinkle treatment in the spring of 2009, but it has been smoothing out facial folds and lines in Europe, South America, and elsewhere for several years. Like Botox, this injectable was originally developed in the 1990s to treat neuromuscular disorders.
Dysport is similar to Botox, but Dysport is said to be faster-acting and longer-lasting.
WHAT ARE FILLERS?
There are varies types of FILLERS. Some are permanent, some are semi-permanent. Some fillers are also reversible and can be dissolved. JUVÉDERM and Restylane are smooth gel fillers that are used to instantly smooth away wrinkles, deep lines, and add volume back to an area. It is also used to fill and/or plump lips, correct or straighten out noses, amongst other uses. With just one treatment, you’ll get smooth and natural-looking results that last up to a year or two.
